The Red Ladybug class is our Junior Kindergarten class. The children in this classroom are four and a half years old. The children are given a “gift of time” in order to prepare for kindergarten the following year. The curriculum is theme related, which changes every one to two weeks. The children work at learning centers throughout the classroom that relate to the theme. Within the learning centers the children will be working on academic skills such as math, science, writing, and pre-reading.
Emily Sisk
Lead Teacher
I’m so excited to be starting my second year here at Franklin Academy, as the new lead Junior Kindergarten teacher. I have a Bachelors of Science in Child Development from Madonna University. Before teaching at Franklin Academy I taught and directed at a private preschool in Ann Arbor. I believe that children learn best through hands on experiences and have designed my curriculum to provide the opportunity to meet this goal.
Denise Arden
Assistant Teacher
My educational background includes a Bachelors degree in Social Work as well as a Masters degree in Guidance and Counseling. During my undergraduate studies, I completed 3 years of course instruction in child development and early childhood education and participated in several field placements in the schools.
My prior work experience includes nine years as a clinical social worker in a residential and educational treatment center serving children with special needs. For the past five years, I served as an assistant teacher at Echo Park School working in several classrooms with children ages 2-5.
While raising my children I enjoyed participating in many volunteer experiences in the Farmington Public Schools which included tutoring and serving as a Junior Great Books discussion leader. |
